

Lowell was born on January 16, 1932, in Bryan, OH, the son of Simeon and Lulu (Towne) Royal. He married Eileen Christman on February 25, 1951, in Bement, IL.
Lowell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He worked his entire career at Illinois Bell, retiring as an engineer. Lowell volunteered for 25 years at Memorial Medical Center as a red coat, ushered at Sangamon Auditorium, and was instrumental in coordinating deliveries of essential needs to Haiti through Midwest Mission Distribution. Lowell was a loving and devoted family man and in his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Grider; brothers, Duane and Joe Royal; and sister, Lenore Flemming.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Eileen of Springfield; sons, Chris (Sue) Royal of Buckeye, AZ, John (Terry) Royal of Gravois Mills, MO, and Greg Royal of Springfield; grandchildren, Sarah Sosinski, Bryn Royal, Mike (Amy) Royal, and Brian (Kait) Royal; and great-grandchildren, Bear, Josh, Hannah, Derrick, Abigail, Charles, and Christopher.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kent Lolling officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
