

She was born Sept. 15, 1926 in Hagondange, France, the daughter of Marthe Laure Gilet and Joseppe Ortis. She met her husband, John H. Wilson Jr. at the end of WWII, when his unit marched through her village after the liberation of France. John and Lydie were married for 62 years and he preceded her in death August 30, 2008.
Lydie is survived by two daughters, Shirley Wilson, Springfield; Chantal (Carl) Sneed, Bloomington; two grandsons, Kyle Sneed (Chicago, IL) and Jordan Sneed (Atlanta, Ga.).
Lydie loved animals and nature. She was an accomplished seamstress and gardener and a talented knitter. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We know she is at peace and her spirit is free.
The family wishes to thank those trusted caregivers at Bickford Senior Living, Regency Nursing and the hospice team from Memorial Hospital, who cared lovingly for her in the last year of her life.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrated by Rev. Michael Koschmann at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Springfield Animal Protective League.
