

Born April 15, 1939 in Keokuk, Iowa, Lynn was the son of Carl D. and Dorothy A. (Hathaway) Troute. He married Sue Jones in December, 1962 and to that union were born two daughters, Lisa and Stacia. On September 29, 1979, Lynn married Karen Childers in Decatur, Illinois and they shared the last 46 years of their lives together.
Lynn was a graduate of Carthage High School and earned his Bachelors Degree in Education from Carthage College in 1961. He continued his education throughout his career and earned his Masters Degree from Illinois State University.
Mr. Troute began his 40 year career in education as a teacher and High School Boys Basketball Coach in 1962 with the Tallula School District, from 1963 to 1965 with the Dallas City School District and from 1965 to 1968 he was with the Petersburg School District. Lynn then became an administrator for the Regional Office of Education in Carthage until 1971 when he went to the State Board of Education in Springfield. While with the State Board of Education, Mr. Troute was the Principal Consultant of Guidance & Counseling for the Department of Vocational & Technical Education until his retirement in February, 1992.
Lynn’s passion was nature. An avid hunter, Lynn’s knowledge of wildlife was nearly unmatched. He was an accomplished trap shooter and was a sure shot when he was out hunting, being the envy of many of his hunting buddies. Affectionately known as “Dr. Duck”, Lynn enjoyed attending shows where he sold Illinois State Deer and Turkey pins and Federal and State duck prints and stamps along with wildlife art, duck decoys and other hunting related items.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; two daughters, Lisa C. Seitzer and Stacia A. Saporta; five grandchildren, Brandon Seitzer (Jessica), Cameron Seitzer, Monica Grana (Travis), Nathan Saporta and Luke Saporta (Ashley); five great grandchildren, Weston, Max, Crew, Cali & Lily; a sister in law, Darlene Troute of Burlington, IA; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and thought the world of.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rex H. Troute; a cousin, Paul D. Price; and a sister in law, Vickie Hofferkamp and her husband, Rodney.
A memorial service will be held Friday (June 5, 2026) at 10:30 a.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S Koke Mill Road in Springfield with Judy Woerner as Celebrant. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday (June 6, 2026) at 11:00 a.m. at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage with Rod Cookson as Celebrant.
