

Malcom W. “Mac” Simonson, 59, of Springfield, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003 at his residence. Mac was born August 9, 1943 in Moline, the son of Wilbur A. and Cecelia Vogel Simonson. He married Cheryl D. Boll April 23, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Simonson retired February 19, 1999 from SBC/Ameritech as a Telecom Specialist after 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Telecom Pioneers. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Afra Peters Simonson. He is survived by his wife: Cheryl of Springfield; one son: Matthew C. Simonson at home; two step sisters: Leanne Peters of VA, Sr. Judith Peters of CA; two brothers: Dennis F. (companion, Carol Vincent) Simonson of Springfield, Curtiss G. Simonson of Taylorville; three sisters-in-law: Mary Simonson of Newton, Bonnie (husband, Mike) Jamison of Springfield, Pamela (companion, Kara Hill) Boll of Springfield; one niece: Sheila Mauney of Springfield; two nephews: Mark Simonson of WA, Kevin (wife, Angela) Simonson of Springfield; two great nephews: Braden and Blake Mauney both of Springfield and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 11:00, Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Patrick J. Wright V.F. principal celebrant and Reverend David Zimmerman. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
