

Mamie Donovan Maher of Springfield died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Villa Healthcare East in Sherman. Mamie was born in Springfield the daughter of John J. and Mary Hayes Donovan. She married Joseph R. Maher on August 7, 1934 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1985. Mamie graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School, Springfield High School, and attended Brown’s Business College. She was employed by Springfield Marine Bank, Dictaphone Corporation, Springfield Council of Churches, and the State of Illinois Attorney General’s Office, General Law Division, retiring in 1987. She volunteered at Sacred Heart Griffin High School. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Cathedral Council of Catholic Women (former president and treasurer), Cathedral Bingo Team, Cathedral School Fund team member, Sacred Heart Academy PTA (secretary), Springfield High Philos, St. Louise DeMarillac Guild (former treasurer), St. John’s Hospital Samaritans. She was also preceded in death by her son: Joseph Richard Maher, parents and brother John J. “Bus” Donovan. She is survived by her sons: James P. Maher of Alexandria, VA., Michael J. Maher of Timonium, MD, daughters: Joni Lee of San Diego, CA, Judy Maher Redick of Springfield and Maxine Maher-Albertelli (husband, Richard) of Lilburn, GA; six grandchildren, Mark (wife Laura) Redick of Glendale, MO, Kerri (husband Larry) Doll of Springfield, Colleen (husband Jeff) Gustafson of Hudson, WI, John (wife Jennifer) Lee of San Diego, CA, Lisa Lee of San Diego, CA, and Kelly Albertelli of Lilburn, GA ; six great-grandchildren, Ethan Patrick and Luke Robert Redick of Glendale, MO, Olivia Rose and Emerson Maeve Doll of Springfield , Kiley Elizabeth and Keelin Erin Gustafson of Hudson, WI.; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. John Ossola, principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
