

Maggie was born on February 8, 1948, in Horse Cave, KY, the daughter of Rollin and Mary Edna (Spencer) Goodhue. She married Lambert Steele on February 4, 1967, in New Berlin.
Maggie graduated from New Berlin High School. She worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Public Health for 29 years until her retirement. Maggie also worked as the church secretary at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Buffalo. She was a member of the Buffalo Women’s Club, Knights of Columbus #4175 Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteered at Mission Outreach and St. Aloysius Catholic School. Maggie enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, gambling, and crafting, and most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in law, Harold and Helen Steele; son, Brian Steele; brother, Lawrence Lee Goodhue; sister, Betty Long; and aunt, Margie Crain.
Maggie is survived by her husband, Lambert of Buffalo; son, Mike (Kerry) Steele of Sherman; daughter, Amy (Robert Nickel) Townsell of Springfield; grandchildren, Zachary Townsell, Cody Townsell, and Madeline Steele; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL 62702. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Clinton Honkomp, O.P. officiating.
Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
