Margaret "Peggy" Warfel

Margaret 'Peggy' Warfel, nee Rubenacker, 49, died at 6:17 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Sacred Heart Convent Infirmary. Peggy was a candidate of the Springfield Dominicans. Peggy was born on March 4, 1957 in Urbana, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Agnes Rubenacker. She attended St. Thomas Grade School in Philo, IL and was a graduate of Unity High School in Tolono, IL. Peggy was employed as a Seed Analyst for Illinois Crop Improvement before moving to Springfield. When circumstances allowed, Peggy chose to respond to God's call to a vocation to religious life. Some steps leading to this response included spiritual direction, and her connection with the Springfield Dominicans who had taught her in grade school. Peggy became a Springfield Dominican Associate in 1997. On October 2, 2005, Peggy entered the Springfield Dominican community as a candidate in preparation for becoming a vowed member of the congregation. Peggy was a selfless, faith-filled woman who was dedicated to those she loved. Family ties, motherhood, and community life were very important to her. She loved the outdoors, camping, and reading. She was a former member of St. Thomas Parish in Philo, the Altar and Rosary Society, and was a communion minister to the homebound. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are one son, Justin Warfel of Oakland; three sisters: Joyce (husband, Tom) Cheatum of Philo, Colleen (husband, Tim) O'Neill of Philo, Mary Jo (husband, Kenny) Redmon of Urbana and one brother, Danny (wife, Lisa) Rubenacker of St. Joseph, IL and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome for visitation from 3:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006 at Sacred Heart Convent, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield. The Funeral Mass will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006 at Sacred Heart Convent with Rev. Peter Witchousky as celebrant. Final Commendation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Sacred Heart Convent with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to P O R A, 930 S. 11th.
