

Marian Buoy Graham, 90, of Springfield, died at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2006 at St. John’s Hospice. Marian was born on January 11, 1915 in Springfield, the daughter of James and Paula Miller Buoy. She married James E. Graham, M. D. on June 26, 1937 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; he preceded her in death on October 8, 2003. Mrs. Graham was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years. Mrs. Graham graduated from Springfield College in Illinois in 1966 and Illinois College in Jacksonville in 1968. She received her Masters Degree in English from Illinois State University in Normal in 1972. She was an instructor of English (1973-81) at Springfield College in Illinois at Springfield; also an instructor of English as owner and co-owner of Language Services (1978-81 and 1974-78 respectively). She received the distinguished alumnus award in 1988 from Springfield College in Illinois and the prestigious Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award on November 24, 2000. Mrs. Graham was active in volunteer activities at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; served two years as local president of Altrusa International; member of American Medical Association Auxiliary, Brinkerhoff Home, Inc. Auxiliary, Illinois Association of Teachers of English, Illinois State Museum Society, Music Guild and St. John’s Hospital Volunteer Guild. She also served on the Tribunal, Diocese of Springfield in Illinois as Advocate-Procurator (1989-1991) and managing Editor, Springfield Clinic Medical Bulletin (1983-1994), and English language tutor from 1978-1991. She is survived by three sons: James M. (wife, Carolyn) Graham, Anthony J. (wife, Tamara) Graham both of Springfield, Martin J. Graham of Topeka, KS; three daughters: Carol (husband, Douglas) Cameron of Rapid City, SD; Mary Bernadette Graham-Buxton of Round Lake; Therese (husband, Les) Pauly of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. David Hoefler celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield College in Illinois, 1500 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL 62702.
