

She was born October 8, 1925, in Freeburg, IL to Edward and Olga (Lippert) Groth and was raised on a farm south of Freeburg, IL. She married Dean W. Kessler on June 17. 1950.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dean of over 63 years; two brothers, Orville & Hilmar Groth; four sisters, Lorena, Viola, Elvira and Florence.
Surviving her are one daughter, Nancy Hoehn (Ron) of Texarkana, TX; one son, Robert (Susan) Kessler of Champaign; four grandchildren, Leah & Shelby Roman and Alan & David Kessler, as well as two step-grandchildren, Devon & Savannah Hoehn. Marie is also survived by one sister, Marjorie Smith (Don) and two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Ruth Ann Groth, all of Freeburg, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie graduated from Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis as a nurse in 1947 and enjoyed reunions with her classmates through the years. She worked at Scott Air Force Base and Springfield Memorial Hospital prior to starting a family. Marie loved playing bridge and baking (entering the State Fair Bake-off). Marie and Dean enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church since moving to Springfield in 1960.
