Marilyn M. (Shafer) MeCaskey

Marilyn was born January 22, 1937, in Wrights, IL, the daughter of Ila Tucker. She married Jerald Lyle MeCaskey on October 21, 1972, in Springfield, IL; he preceded her in death on October 20, 2019.

Marilyn was employed with Franklin Life Insurance until her retirement after 30 years of service. She was a member of Together Church on North Grand for over 60 years and a member of Christian women’s group. Marilyn was a loving Christian woman and devoted mother to her six children. She loved gardening, reading, bird watching and cats, especially her cat, Whiskers.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffery L. MeCaskey; daughter, Sherrie Moriconi; granddaughter, Rebecca Marie MeCaskey; and mother, Ila Tucker.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons, Jerald Lyle (Lori) MeCaskey, Jr. of St. Croix, Chris (Kristin) MeCaskey and Jim Carter, both of Springfield; one daughter, Mary (Larry II) Long of Springfield; seventeen grandchildren, Emily MeCaskey, Dr. Kathryn (Josh) MeCaskey Williams, Jerald “Lyle” MeCaskey III, Dalton Tyler (Laura), Emily Noel, and Eric Clayton Boyd, Kirby (Garrett) MeCaskey Nichols, Lannes, Liam, and Tristan MeCaskey, Noah James Crenshaw, Aaron (Elle), Brandon (Lindsey), Corey (Amy Gentile) McCreight, Cassie Marie Lloyd, and Cody and Cory Long; eighteen great-grandchildren, Theodore James, Ruthie, Braydon , Landon, Cayson, Adalynn, Aiden, Zoey, Adalay, Prudence, Evelyn, Olivia, Freya, Haven, Miles, Lily, Beckham, and Dalton Bissell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Together Church on North Grand, 225 North Grand Avenue E., Springfield, IL.

Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, with Pastor Doug Morrow. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
