

Marion J. Bernardi, 80, of Springfield, died at 11:24 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011. Marion was born July 15, 1931 in Gillespie, the daughter of William "Doc" and Frances Ladny Crouser. She married Al Bernardi in Gillespie on July 7, 1951. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1999. Marion graduated as valedictorian from Gillespie High School where she was a cheerleader and played softball. She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed crocheting, needlework, baking and decorating cakes. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Delores Edwards. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Jim Shaw) Bernardi of Pleasant Plains; one son, Bruce Bernardi of Springfield; three grandchildren, Joseph Bernardi, Dr. Angela Shaw and Elyse Shaw; a sister; Patricia (husband, Robert) Fulton of Gillespie; a brother; Bill (wife, Nancy) Koski of Hamel; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will end with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 730 S. 12th St., Springfield with Rev. Charles Edwards, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
