

Marion was born January 31, 1938, in Springfield, the son of John and Grace Charles. He married Patricia Joan Robinson in 1962 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on November 3, 1999.
Marion graduated from Springfield High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He was employed as a computer operator for the State of Illinois until his retirement in 1997. Marion was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, the Postal Club, the Elks Club, and the Eagles Club. He loved traveling with family and friends, spending time with family, especially at holidays or celebrations, and sharing witty analogies with friends. Marion was a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Alice Charles; and brothers, Tank and Donnie Charles.
He is survived by his sons, David M. (wife, Melodey) Charles of Riverton and Daniel C. Charles of Fisher, IN; daughter, Julie (husband, Mark) Marzano of Shorewood, IL; grandchildren, Andrew, Sophia, Olivia, Colton, Ryan, Christopher, and McKinsey Charles, Ashley (husband, Steve) Crobie, and Kiley (husband, Sean) McEvilly; and great-grandchildren, Brynn, Logan, and Maddie.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
A private funeral ceremony will be held with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating, and burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
