Mark Alan Hubbard

Mark Alan Hubbard, 67, of Chatham, formerly of Springfield and Franklin, died June 25, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Nov. 4, 1946 in Bloomington, the son of Harold and Eula Jean Strange Hubbard. He married Julie Schmidt in 1971 in Princeton and they were married 32 years. Since 2005, he shared his life with Sharlene Hartzell. Mark will be greatly missed by his sons, Dr. Joel (wife, Sarah) Hubbard of St. Charles, MO and Zachary (wife, Amanda) Hubbard of Springfield; grandchildren, Nolan Oliver Hubbard, Kaitlin Marie Hubbard, Sydney Jean Hubbard and Kelsey May Hubbard; sister, Marcia (husband, Donald) Isch of Prosper, TX; three nephews and his fianc�e, Sharlene, of Chatham, stepchildren, Janelle Strite of Springfield, Brent Hartzell of Chatham; step grandchildren, Skylar Desmarais and Whitney Strite. Mr. Hubbard graduated from University High School in Normal, Beloit College and later received his masters of Social Work degree from Washington University. He worked for the IL Department of Children and Family Services for 31 years, the last 23 as a supervisor with the statewide Child abuse Hotline. Additionally, he was an active outdoor writer for more than 30 years having served as outdoor columnist for the Pantagraph in Bloomington and the State Journal Register, Springfield, as well as writing freelance articles and a current member of the Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Association of America and Missouri Outdoor Communicators. He was also a past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion in Waverly, IL. Mr. Hubbard was a member of Our Savior�s Lutheran Church, in Springfield. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham, before services. His family will greet friends on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 11am to 1pm with a Memorial Service at 1pm with Reverend Joshua Traxel officiating at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Rt.4, Chatham.
