

Mark Walter Wagner, 82, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born on July 26, 1943, to Walter and Selma (Koechig) Wagner in LaSalle, IL. He married Barbara Mulcahy on June 25, 1966.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Barbara; grandson, Jake Elston; brother, David; and sister-in-law, Nancy Buckley Wagner.
He is survived by two siblings, Eileen Buckley of Burr Ridge, IL and Gary (Cheryle) Wagner of Seguin, TX; four children, Karrie (Brian) Harris of Hillsboro, MO, Brett Wagner of Henderson, NV, Heather (Dan) Grund of Geneva, IL, and Tara (Jack) Elston of Springfield, IL; ten grandchildren, Courtney, Connor and Clayton Harris, Ashley Wagner Bowman, Emma, Cole, Luke and Paige Grund, and Hannah and Luke Elston; and one great-grandchild, Ryleigh Boulanger.
Mark graduated from Springfield High School in 1961, attended Springfield Junior College and graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He was a registered Professional and Structural Engineer and Vice President at Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Inc., Consulting Engineers. He retired in 2005 after 40 years of service.
He was an avid golfer, St. Louis Cardinals and U of I fan. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, family, friends, and grandchildren, traveling, vacationing in Mexico, wintering in Arizona, working on home improvement projects, and watching the Cardinals beat the Cubs.
A private family ceremony will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum.
