

Martha Griffin Davis 83, of Springfield, died at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at her home. Martha was born on July 2, 1923 in Morrisonville, IL, the daughter of Rev. Noble Clarence and Pearle Mae Maxson Griffin. She married Rev. William Morgan Davis on July 2, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL; he preceded her in death in November 1999. She was an active member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church where she served in numerous roles. It gave her great joy to help others including assisting at church weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions. She was a homemaker as well as being employed at the Illinois State Board of Education and the Pool Center in Springfield. Martha was a very positive lady with a good sense of humor who enjoyed sewing, ceramics, flower gardening, shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davis (companion, James Krohe, Jr.) of Highland Park; three sons: William Morgan “Bill” (wife, Tori) Davis, Jr. of Tucson, AZ, Donald “Don” Davis of Chicago and Ronald “Ron” (wife, Jackie) Davis of Springfield; nine grandchildren; one sister, Becky Schleusner of Lee Summit, MO, two brothers, David (wife, Joan) Griffin of Conway, AR and John (wife, Beverly) Griffin of Greenville, TX and many nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to a Memorial Gathering from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 W. Elliott Ave. Springfield with Rev. Mark Estrop and Rev. Charles White officiating. Private Graveside Services will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 W. Elliott Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.
