Martin L. Duling

Marty was born April 22, 1930 in Coon Rapids, IA, the son of Martin A. and Mildred Wood Duling. He married Leah Obert on December 21, 1963 in Lehighton, PA.

Marty graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1948 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 25 years from 1948 1973, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Early Ford V-8 Club. Marty also volunteered at the Dana-Thomas House for 16 years. He enjoyed photography, antique cars, electronics, and computers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Hernandez.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leah; children, Doris (husband, Danny) Pickell of Madrid, IA, Martin L.K. Duling of Chicago, Paul (wife, the late Catherine) Duling of Dearborn, MI, and Carol Duling (husband, Daniel Schwarz) of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Traci (husband, Quinton) Smeltzer of Bentonville, AR and Gregory and Vivian Schwarz of St. Paul, MN; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Garrett Smeltzer; sisters, Phyllis Onnen of West Des Moines, IA and Joan Strautman of Carroll, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield with Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer officiating.

Private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
