Mary Ellen Capen, 84, of Springfield, died at 5:42 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at St. John's Hospital. Mary was born on August 25, 1929 in Springfield, the daughter of Ralph A. and Mary Ellen Green Capen. Mary was employed for 19 years with C&IM Railroad. She then went to work for the City of Springfield with CWLP for 8 years and retired from Dickey-john Corporation in 1991 after 16 years of service. Mary was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph's Home Coterie, St. Agnes Circle, AARP, and volunteered at St. Joseph Home. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Doris Kirincich, Robert F. Capen, and Shirley Vaughn She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St Agnes School, 251 N. Amos, Springfield, IL 62702.
