

Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Kelly, 95, of Springfield, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. John's Hospital. Libby was born October 11, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert and Mary Leona Muscat Kessler. Libby was a graduate of Lanphier High School and attended Browns Business College. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 40 years, where she was the first woman to serve as a manager of the business office. Libby was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also active with the American Business Womens Association, YWCA, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, and served as a past president of the Womens Division of Association of Commerce and Industry. Libby was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Richard (Inna) Kelly of Springfield; daughter, Brigid (Michael) Thomas of Springfield; four grandchildren, Adrienne, Nadia, Payne, and Breck; three great-grandchildren, Gabrial, Christian, and Kennedy; and two sisters, Carol Nerone of Springfield and Jeanne Welch of Washington, IL. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
