Mary E. Kerns

She was born January 8, 1927 in Campbellsville, KY the daughter of Norman and Bertie (Cox) Lowe. She married James M. Kerns Jr. in Taylorville, IL, January 24, 1946 and he preceded her in death, October 5, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters and her son-in-law Bud McTaggart.

Mary served in various capacities with different businesses throughout her life. She worked during WW II at the ammunition plant in Illiopolis, and Pepsi Cola to name a few. Her favorite was being a babysitter for many families. She adored children and found her greatest joy helping them and caring for them.

She was a past member of the Beau Knot Class at West Side Christian Church and as an avid bowler, was a member of several leagues. She enjoyed cooking and especially trying different recipes. Her family was most important to her. She was a devoted “granny” and “granny goose”. She was supportive in her grandchildren’s activities and endeavors. She traveled several times to watch hockey games and basketball games. She will truly be missed by all her knew her.

Surviving are her children: Pamela (husband Thomas) Yeager of Springfield, IL, Deborah (husband Bud, deceased) McTaggart of Pawnee, IL, and Timothy (wife Janet) Kerns of North Ft. Meyers, FL. She has eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL where family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 am. Pastor Dustin Bramer will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Pleasant Plains, IL.
