Mary Ann Langston

Mary Ann was born April 7, 1942, in Waverly, IA, the daughter of Dwight and Mae Dirksen, both preceding her in death. She is survived by her brother, Donald Dirksen of Waterloo, IA and her sister, Jane (Robert) Frost of Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Mary Ann received her bachelor’s from University of Iowa and master’s in social work from Loyola University. She spent her 38-year career in the field of welfare, first with the Cook County Department of Public Aid and then the Illinois Department of Public Aid/Department of Human Services.

She was an avid Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and upon her retirement in 2002 from the State of Illinois, Mary Ann spent her time volunteering and gardening at the Dana Thomas House in Springfield during the summer and Taliesin West in Scottsdale, AZ during the winter.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.

Burial will be held in the family plot in Waterloo, IA at a later date.
