Mary Louise Veronica Loftus Craig

Mary Louise Veronica Loftus Craig of Springfield, died at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Memorial Hospital passing peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Mary was born on October 12, 1949, in Davenport, IA. She married John Charles Craig in 1974; he preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joe Loftus.

Mary was devoted in empathetic service to others, creating a community of love and shining the light of hope into the world. As reflected in her work crafting better implementation of law, she was committed to creating a web of interconnectedness. Mary loved gardening, reading, her family and friends, and was a positive touchstone. Mary was deeply loved and lives continuously in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her sons, David Thomas (Rebecca Rotello) Craig of Albuquerque, NM, and Jesse Lindsey Craig of Springfield; three grandchildren, John S., Joseph C., and Thomas A. Craig; two siblings, Eileen Loftus of Springfield, and Michael (Judy) Loftus of Aiken, SC; three nieces; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central IL Food Bank, 1937 E. Cook St., Springfield, IL 62703 or by spending fifteen minutes in meditative prayer in her memory. Butler Cremation Tribute Center provided cremation services for the family prior to a private graveside ceremony at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, IL.
