

Mary was born July 12, 1933 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Gilbert and Alene Fernandes Decker. She married William Miller on September 10, 1955 in Springfield.
Mary graduated from Lanphier High School. She worked at Sangamon Dairy, the Department of Transportation and Illinois National Bank. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church. Mary loved spending time with her family. She loved people and she loved to laugh. She loved puns, such as "I love you from the top of my head, tomatoes," and she had a way of making others around her laugh as well. Mary loved people; she loved to talk and never met a stranger. She had a great sense of humor. Mary was very thoughtful and always enjoyed putting together photo remembrances and keepsakes for others. She loved photographs and liked to document lifes moments to look back on. She also loved her family. They were her world. Mary enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bulls. If she fell asleep during a game, she would call the newspaper or TV station to find out who won. She loved music, particularly Neil Diamond, and if ever there was music playing, shed be tapping her feet. Mary will be missed, and she is so loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Miller; two brothers, Edwin and Dave Decker; and sister, Martha Gantt.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Miller; two daughters, Pam Alborg (Jeff Golden) and Jennifer Miller (Mike Long); grandson, Tommy (Yoko) Hayes of Japan; great-grandchild, George; granddaughter, Heidi Hayes; sister, Beverly (Darrell) Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Joe Eby officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
