

Mary was born on July 30, 1936, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of George J. and Thora Mae (Clarkson) Ridlen. She married Henry C. Moss on November 24, 1957, at Third Presbyterian Church by Rev. H. M. Hildelbrandt.
She was raised on a farm close to Cowden and attended a one room school, Boiling Springs, and graduated from Cowden High School as the Salutatorian. Mary moved to Springfield in 1955, and worked at State of Illinois, Secretary of State, Simplex, George S. Grimmett Co. for 21 years, Grower Service, and drove for Enterprise Rental Cars for 13 years.
Mary and Henry enjoyed traveling and spent several vacations in Hawaii. They were married for almost 60 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, AARP, and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham.
Mary will be remembered for sending greeting cards to her relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by Henry on April 26, 2017; her stepson, Henry C. “Sonny” Moss, Jr., on the same date; parents; granddaughter, Julie Moss; brother, Carl Ridlen; and niece, Jennifer Skotty.
Mary is survived by her granddaughter, Jodie (Doug) Lublin of Chatham; brother, Donald (Norma) Ridlen of Granite City; sisters, Beulah (Chuck) Allison and Bernice Cattron, both of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is also survived by lifelong friends who were very dear to her, Diana and Steve Banning, and Mark Banning.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, with Pastor Mike Keppler officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
