

Mary H. O'Neil, 83, of Springfield, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Mary was born on August 10, 1930 in Carlinville, the daughter of Arthur and Fern Arter Kirkland. She married Ernest O'Neil in 1966 in Carlinville; he preceded her in death on September 26, 2008. Mary was employed as a legal secretary for 40 years and retired from Giffin, Winning, Lindner, and Newkirk Law firm in 1992. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and volunteered her time with her husband for Meals on Wheels. She was known for her kindness and had a great aptitude for remembering birthdays. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, traveling, bingo and various other activities. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two nephews, Mark and Mike Cameron. She is survived by her sisters, Esther Cameron of Springfield and Ruth (Ken) Johnston of Springfield; her brother John (Marilyn) Kirkland of Carlinville; two nieces, Susan Cameron and Kathy Johnston; six nephews, Cliff, Donnie, and Todd Cameron, David and Gregg Kirkland, Brian Johnston; and several great-nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
