Mary Louise Alexander Weiss, 86, of Springfield, died at 8:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at St. John's Hospice. Mary was born on March 5, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of Charles Joseph and Pasqua Costanzi Alexander. She married John Weiss in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death in 1994. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Emil Alexander; her sister, Jennie Alexander; her niece, Jennie L. Alexander; and her nephew, Joe Alexander. Mary had a great sense of humor that matched her incredible work ethic. She worked for 36 years at Sangamon Electric; followed by 22 years in accounting at the Secretary of State's office. In her earlier years, she also worked as a beautician. Mary was a member of St. Agnes Parish and was very devoted to her church. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 755 and the Ladies Auxiliary, where she also volunteered. She was also a member of several AFSCME Labor Locals. Mary loved her family deeply and was very loyal. She was the kind of person who would help anybody in need. Mary made time for travelling as often as she could. Mary is survived by three nieces, Barb Alexander-Jones of Springfield, Connie Stanley of Springfield, and Julie Holm of Chula Vista, CA; her three nephews, Thomas Alexander of Ormond Beach, FL, Carl Alexander of Lawndale, CA, and Kevin Alexander of Stanton, CA; and also by several great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick School, 1800 S. Grand Ave. E, Springfield, IL 62703.
