She was born in Springfield on February 1, 1962, the daughter of Robert and Kathryn (Crowley) McDow.
Maureen graduated from Lanphier High School with the class of 1980, and went on to attend St. John’s School of Nursing, earning her LPN license. She became a nurse in the emergency department at St. John’s Hospital for 5 years. Maureen later attended Lincoln Land Community College where she earned her associate’s degree, which allowed her to work for DHS at the State of Illinois, and she retired after 20 years. Maureen was an avid plant mom, enjoyed baking for her family (especially anything with chocolate), spoiling her grandchildren, and loved her cardinal birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Hays and Michelle Kolpack; and brother, Bobby McDow.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Kevin; daughters, Lisa, Tara (John Taylor), and Kayla (Darian Hayes) Brackett, all of Springfield; grandchildren to whom she was known as Mawmaw, Shawn Hughes, Alexander and Declan Taylor, Mary Kate Howe, and DJ and Kyrie Hayes; siblings, Susan (Randy) Fulks of Chatham, and Michael and Kevin McDow, both of Springfield; several nieces and nephews - who fondly referred to her as “bean” and “aunt reen”, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, until the time of the Ceremony at 12:00 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner. A celebration of life will be held following the services.
