Maurice was born on May 30,1942 the son of Nicholas and Lois Mae (Watson) Renfro. His parents preceded him in death as well as his brother, Nicholas “Kayo” Renfro. He married Beverly J. Helm, June 19, 2004, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children; Khristan Stella and Louis Renfro both of Chicago, IL and Shelia Renee (husband Dennis) Hanson of McCordsville, IN, his brothers; Elmer (wife Linda) Renfro, Ronald (wife Donna) Renfro, and Nolan “Butch” (wife Dorothy) Renfro, sister, Jacqueline Renfro-Pryor all of Springfield, IL, his granddaughter, Sierrah Stella of Chicago, and several additional grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and a special uncle, Reginald Watson of Springfield.
Maurice worked for many years in the family business, N.R.Renfro Trucking and Excavating. He attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Maurice served in the United State Army from February 28, 1964, until his honorable discharge March 9, 1967. He earned a marksman's certification and continued his service in the United States Army Reserves.
Maurice was well known for his civic and community service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 809, and a life member of the Amvets.He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Menelik Consistory #49 Valley of Springfield,
Family and Friends are invited to a time of visitation at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 9:30am-11:15 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. T. Ray McJunkins officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
