

Maurice Paul Tobin, 90, of Springfield died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Capitol Care Center. Maurice was born September 3, 1913 in Springfield, the son of William and Inez Cooper Tobin. He married Marie Serra on May 20, 1936 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1999. Maurice attended Springfield High School. He had been employed as a truck driver at Central Illinois Ice Company from 1936 – 1941, operated Tobin Coal Company in 1941 and began his employment as a truck driver for Henry Nelch & Son in 1949 until his retirement in 1976. Maurice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Joseph Tobin. He is survived by one son: Michael James Tobin of Chatham, two daughters: Judith Ann Tobin and Patricia Marie (husband, Merle) Schleyhahn both of Springfield, three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother: William Olaf Tobin of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield, IL 62702.
