

Melva I. Lewis, 85, lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at St. John's Hospice. Melva was born October 11, 1915, the daughter of Cloyd and Mary O. Tripp in Springfield. She married Ralph E. Lewis in Springfield in 1963. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1997. She was a chemist for the Dickey-John Corporation and Sangamo Electric, retiring from both. She enjoyed golf, gambling, painting and bowling. Melva was a member of the Mae Fritz Bowling League for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a daughter: Judy (husband, Harold) Chapman of Springfield; two grandchildren: Chris (husband, Gene) Aulich of Divernon, Mike (wife, Heather) Chapman of Glendale, AZ; a great grandddaughter: Amanda Aulich of Divernon; a step daughter: Bonnie McWhood of Chatham and a step son: Ralph W. ''Bud'' Lewis of Chatham; two aunts: Vermalene Sexton of Springfield, Wilberta Matlack of Girard and several cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2001. Funeral Services will be held at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 with the Reverend Scott Brindley officiating.
