

He was born in LaSalle, IL, on September 20, 1930, the son of Walter and Elsie (Bartels) Glubczynski. Melvin was happily married to Lois A. Glynn for 65 years prior to her passing in 2019.
Melvin graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and his master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War. Melvin worked as a school psychologist for Springfield School District 186. He was bestowed with the honor of Illinois school psychologist of the year in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always made everyone feel special. In his free time, Melvin also enjoyed golfing, reading, painting, woodworking, and gathering with his friends and family over dinner and drinks. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Kiwanis International, VFW, American Legion, and Shambolee golf course in Petersburg. Melvin was very humorous, social, and a life-long learner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; and brothers, Don and Lee Glubczynski.
Melvin is survived by his son, Keith (Sheryl) Glynn; daughters, Jane (Jim) Kinsel and Joni (Mark) Churchill; grandchildren, Bradley Glynn, Tyler (Emily) Glynn, Scott and Cody Kinsel, and Wes, Jake, and Emily Churchill; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Bryce Glynn; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends in Petersburg, IL, and Florida.
Cremation was provided in Florida.
Memorial Gathering and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 711 South 6th St., Petersburg. Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Varghese Puthussery officiating. The family invites you to wear casual golf attire.
Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg with military honors provided.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shambolee Golf Course.
