Meta L. Shearburn

Meta was born October 17, 1920 in Morgan County, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Turner) Sample. She married James H. Shearburn on September 25, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Reba Lawson and Annis (Rouland) Nevins and son in law Robert McLaughlin.

Meta is survived by her son, Robert (Martha) Shearburn of Springfield; two daughters, Roberta McLaughlin of Marion and Janet (Charles) Williamson of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Jamie Thornton, Michael Thornton, Richard (Rita) Heuerman, Robert McLaughlin,Jr., Penny McLaughlin, Brett McLaughlin, David McLaughlin and Christopher Shearburn; six great grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

Meta was a born again Christian and an active member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church for 58 years. She was a great homemaker and loving mother.

She was an excellent seamstress, a talented guitarist and singer, entertaining at many events around the Waverly area in her teens. She was the pianist at her country church, New Hope Baptist when she was a young lady. Meta was a branch manager for Paris Cleaners for 25 years.

After retiring she worked as a food demonstrator for several local stores until 1999.

Visitation will be on Thursday July 28, 2011 at Springfield Southern Baptist Church 225 North Grand Ave. East from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM with Pastor Michael J. Keppler officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
