Michael E. Grim

Michael E. Grim, 65, of Chatham, passed away at 2:57 a.m. on Monday , September 26, 2016 at St. John's Hospital. Michael was born on April 13, 1951 in Angola, IN, the son of Harland G. and Betty J. Grim. He married L. Susan Wright on December 19, 1970 in Springfield, IL. Michael worked in management for Bell Telephone for 25 years and also worked as a part-time police officer for Rochester and Leland Grove. He most recently retired from the Secretary of State as Chief of Emergency Operations and Director of Operational & Technological Security. Michael enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Susan Grim of Chatham, IL; his son, Chris (Trina) Grim of Auburn, IL; his daughter, Corrie (Tom) Hay of Auburn, IL; his grandchildren, Evan and Nick Grim and Lexie Hay; his siblings, Thomas (Marlene) Grim, Dennis E. (Patricia) Grim, Jay (Janet) Grim, all of Springfield, IL and Becky Grim of Athens; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Lynn Wright officiating. Burial will be held at Chatham Memorial following the ceremony.
