

Michael D. Henry, D.C., 46, of Springfield, died at 7:28 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Michael was born April 28, 1958 in Chicago, the son of Elliott and Florence Smith Henry. Michael married Leigh Ann Schleyhahn on February 11, 1994 at Trunk Bay, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Dr. Henry graduated from Lane Technical Institute in Chicago. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Illinois in Biology /Pre med with a minor in Psychology. He then graduated from National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, IL. Dr. Henry was President/CEO of FitClub and a practicing chiropractor at Capitol Chiropractic Health Center in Springfield. He was a member of Maimonides Society of Physicians Affiliated with the Jewish Federation. He served on the Board of Trustees for United Cerebral Palsy Land of Lincoln, and the Board of the Sangamon Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was also a member of American Chiropractic Association and Illinois Chiropractic Society. Under his leadership, FitClub was the recipient of three National NOVA Seven Awards for innovations in customer service, sales and marketing. He received the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Small Business Owner of the Year Award for Small Businesses with annual sales exceeding one million dollars in 2001. He received the Medical Fitness Association Award for Best Facility Design in 2002. He was the creator and designer of all FitClub billboards. He enjoyed golf, scuba diving, cycling, swimming, traveling, and spending time with his wife and daughters. He was preceded in death by his mother: Florence Smith Henry on April 15, 2004, Grandmother: Pearl Solomon and great aunt: Evelyn Garron. He is survived by his wife, Leigh Ann Henry of Springfield and daughters: Aimee Clare and Kaylee Daniele both at home. The family will receive friends from 4 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rabbi Michael Datz officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
