Born on May 28, 1960, in Springfield, Illinois, Mike was raised in Springfield’s Northend and Devereux Heights, and he built his life in Riverton—where small-town roots shaped his grit, loyalty, and the way he showed love through steady work.
Mike was the hardest working man you’d ever meet: a heavy equipment operator, entrepreneur, and a rare jack of all trades who truly mastered them ALL. He spent his days moving earth and making things happen—resourceful, determined, and capable in a way you don’t forget. Brick by brick and board by board, he built their family home with his own hands, bringing life to “momma’s” dream and creating a place where generations would gather. Funny and laid-back, a big teddy bear with a bullheaded streak, Mike was loyal, nonjudgmental, and never in a hurry—because the people he loved mattered more than the clock. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his pride and joy—his heart and soul.
He is survived by his wife, Maria McCloughan; children, Jessica (Joe) Betz, Stephanie (Brad Loveless) Richardson, and Christopher McCloughan; grandchildren, Baylie (Aaron), Wyatt, Hailie, Boe, and Evelyn; and siblings, Curt (Melody) McCloughan, Kevin (Johnna) McCloughan, Craig McCloughan, Lana McCloughan, and Kim McCloughan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary “Peg” and Langham “Mac” McCloughan; and twin sons, Stephen and Anthony.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
