Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A Prayer Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
The Funeral Mass in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut Street, Springfield, IL with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2001 N. First Street, Springfield, IL.
He was born on September 29, 1950, in Springfield, IL, the son of Andrew and Pauline (Guthrie) Yuskanich. He married Ramona Genta on February 24, 1990, in Springfield, IL.
Michael is survived by his wife, Ramona; brother, Gregory Yuskanich and wife, Cynthia of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; brother-in-law, Dennis Stahlberg of Springfield; nieces, Heather Gutmann and husband, Nate and Brooke Yuskanich; nephews, Andy Yuskanich and wife, Casey and Zachary Yuskanich; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Paula Stahlberg.
Michael attended Catholic schools at Little Flower and Griffin High School in Springfield, and graduated from Kemper Military High School. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL and studied mechanical engineering. He began his career in heating and air conditioning (HVAC) at L & L which was merged with Egizzi Electric, and later with E.L. Pruitt. Michael leaves a lasting legacy as he mentored many young colleagues sharing his passion and commitment to mechanical engineering.
Michael was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Other memberships included Sheet Metal Workers Union, Ducks Unlimited, and an Admiralty member of 51 years at Island Bay Yacht Club.
As a lifelong resident of Springfield, Michael grew up on Lake Springfield where his love for the water first emerged. He was an avid swimmer, skier and boater. He was also a fishing enthusiast who loved the thrill of the catch and the tranquility of the various waters he traveled. Deeply in love with his wife, Ramona, Michael was an affectionate companion and gourmet chef who treasured their time together, especially during their many travels throughout the Caribbean Islands. After enjoying their honeymoon in St. Maarten in 1990, they made many return trips with their dear friends to enjoy the stunning beaches, crystal-clear water and breathtaking sunsets.
Michael will always be remembered for his infectious smile, love of life, generous heart and deep belief in God’s ultimate plan for him, especially during his long and complicated health journey.
