Michelle L. Lefrere, 56, of Jerome, passed away at her residence on Friday, September 25, 2026. She was born on October 10, 1969, in Creve Coeur, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard and Bonnie Lue (Robinson) Lefrere.
Michelle is survived by her father, Leonard Lefrere of Springfield; her companion, Tom Pipkin of Springfield; two aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Robinson; both sets of grandparents; James William Robinson; Alberta Sanders Robinson; Leonard Henry Lefrere and MaryAnn Blasko Lefrere.
Michelle devoted her professional career to public service. She was employed as an accountant with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and served in various capacities within several other state agencies throughout her tenure. In addition to her public service, she owned and operated her small business, For Your Paws Only, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
She was active in her community and generously volunteered with organizations, including the Festival of Trees, the Walk for Epilepsy, and United Way. Michelle had a deep affection for animals, particularly dogs—and held a special fondness for horses. Her grandmother often remarked that she had “a heart of gold”, a sentiment borne out through her many acts of kindness and service.
Michelle was a graduate of Southeast High School and Lincoln Land Community College, where she earned a degree in Micro Data Processing.
Michelle will be remembered for her gentle nature, her commitment to serving others, and her unwavering devotion to the animals she cared for throughout her life.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
A private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
