

Mike Long, 52, of Springfield, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his residence. Mike was born August 3, 1957 in Peoria, the son of David and Martha Kluk Long. He married Jeri Crumly on October 5, 1985. Mike attended junior college at ICC and later transferred to U of I in Champaign where he received his bachelor degree in finance. He joined the Army and was stationed in Germany where he was a medic in the burn unit. He was employed at Capital Machinery prior to working for the Department of Transportation for 20 years as a Prequalification Analyst. Mike was a member of Teamsters Union at IDOT. He loved basketball and was a big Illinois fan. He also enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bears. He also enjoyed riding his bike, taking walks, listening to music and watching movies. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his grandmother, Leona Maha. He is survived by his wife, Jeri of Springfield; two sons, Justin and Jake Long, both of Springfield; two sisters, Lori (Ray) Tweed of Mt. Vernon, IN and Becky (Chris) Thomas of Santa Rosa, CA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Graveside ceremonies will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Interveterans Burial Detail.
