

Mildred was born on May 19, 1923, in Loami, the daughter of Merrill and Mabel (Dodd) Elliott. She married George “Thomas” Sharp on February 21, 1941, in St. Louis, MO; he preceded her in death on July 31, 2020, after 79 years of marriage.
Mildred was a bookkeeper at Goldblatts. She and her husband Thomas owned and operated Mobile Homes Sales and Parks for 30 years. Mildred was the first female Lay Leader at the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially spending winters with Thomas in Padre Island, TX. It was important to her to keep the family close by planning many large celebrations for special occasions.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gayle Laymon; grandson, Richard Lee Milburn; her parents; one sister, Marilyn Lane; and son-in-law, Larry L. Chandler.
She is survived by her son, Thomas W. (Deirdre) Sharp of Chicago; two daughters, Carolyn “Kaye” Chandler of Mt. Zion, IL and Melanony Sharp of Lone Tree, CO; eight grandchildren, Lisa (George) Maris, James (Cathy) Chandler, Thomas (Cristina Esposito) Chandler, Ryan (Beth) Chandler, Kris (Jon) Blair, Robert (Ashley) Laymon, Amber (Ed) Hammer, and Hewson (Chandler) Sharp; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Courtney Elliott and Darrell Elliott, both of Springfield; son in law, Bob Laymon of Universal City, TX; and sister in law, Marie Sharp of Auburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 15th, 2022, at Chatham United Methodist Church, 104 W. Chestnut St., Chatham, IL 62629 with Rev. Miriam Snider officiating.
Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery.
