

Norma J Conkey nee Ross, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Norma was born on July 8, 1926, the daughter of John and Juanita (Irwin) Ross. Norma was raised and married in Tallula, IL, she married Ray Conkey on June 3, 1947. Norma and Ray were longtime members of West Side Christian Church. Norma worked for many years at the Illinois Department of Revenue. After she retired she volunteered much of her time to the Lincoln Presidential Museum, Lewis Memorial Christian Village, and Women in Nurturing & Giving (W.I.N.G.S.), she also was an active member of the Springfield Y.M.C.A. who especially enjoyed the Water Aerobics Classes. She was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving Norma are her sons: Mike (Laurie) Conkey of Springfield, Timothy (Cindy) Conkey of Hartford, WI, her grandchildren: Jeffery, Natalie, Jessica, and Joshua Conkey, Chris and Cassandra Schultz, her great-grandchildren: Emma and Elizabeth Harley, and Delilah Rae Conkey, her sisters: Marilyn Wilson of Petersburg, and Bea Taylor of Downers Grove, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter Cynthia Hayes.
A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Vaughn Beeman on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 12:30 pm at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL 62711. The family will receive guests from 11:30 am until the time of services. Norma will be laid to rest following the service at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Norma's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
