Norma Yvonne Frederick, 92, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at home, with her family by her side. Norma was born July 12, 1925 in Springfield to James Shelby and Mary Margaret DeRose Hobbs. She and John Robert Frederick married April 4, 1949. Her parents, husband and sister, Audrey Fisher preceded her in death. Norma graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing in 1946. While her husband served in the military, she was a school nurse in Germany. She was Dr. Harmons office nurse for many years. Mrs. Frederick was a Republican Precinct Committee-woman and was very involved with the Christian Womens Club in her younger years. Norma enjoyed travel and she loved Hawaii, only place she got homesick for! As an active member of Calvary Church, this Prayer Warrior served on the prayer chain for 25 years, cared for many dying people in the church, and served her community through her gift of hospitality. She also was a volunteer at Calvarys Thrift store on Chatham road. She was dressed to the nines in coordinated outfits: purse, shoes, hat and gloves to match. She found fashion ideas in magazines, cut them out, hung it up on her wall and scouted for the outfit at affordable prices. Norma was an awesome cook and baker: spaghetti and meatballs, coconut crme pie, chocolate cake with boiled marsh-mellow icing, Texas sheet cake, fried chicken, meat loaf, Christmas cookies, buckeyes, and holiday fruit cake were a few specialties that were shared with hundreds of people! Her pies were featured at auctions and usually brought $35 or more! Holiday menus that featured recipes for peanut butter pie, roast and potato, homemade noodles, and sage stuffing, have been passed down to children and grandchildren. No wonder her husband didnt like to eat out, her culinary skills far surpassed many local chefs. She enjoyed music and had a beautiful singing voice, played many instruments, and was known to tap dance! This devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother will be greatly missed by her daughters, Amanda (James) Lindholm of Champion, MI, Mary (Robert) Arn of Waukesha, WI, Lucinda (Wayne) Noelke of Springfield; sons, Clifford Frederick of Springfield and John (Elizabeth) Frederick of Oconomowoc, WI; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; many friends. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham, before all services. Her family will greet friends from 4pm, on Sunday August 20, at Calvary Church, 1730 West Jefferson Street, Springfield, IL, 62704, until the memorial services begins at 5pm. Pastor Paul Rose will officiate. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery with her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church Missions.
