Born on May 11, 1928 in Girard, Illinois to Joe Woods and Cora Mae Franklin Woods, Norma lived most of her young life in Springfield, Illinois. She was a life-long admirer of Abraham Lincoln from a young age and read many books on his life and presidency throughout her life. As a junior at Springfield High School in 1945, she and eight other young women formed "The Katz" girls club, which resulted in life-long friendships between these women. They had many reunions over the years and they faithfully kept in touch by telephone during the years they could not get together. Sully (Norma) Eggleston and Eleanor Sakris remain to cherish those memories.
While living in Springfield, Norma met David Arthur Rogow who worked for the State of Illinois. Prior to their marriage, Dave joined the Dupont Company and moved to Augusta, Georgia. Norma and Dave were married in Augusta on August 1, 1952. Dave's work with Dupont afforded the two of them an adventurous life of moves around the country with their three children and, after their children were grown, moves to Northern Ireland and Holland.
Norma is survived by her loving and devoted children, son, Steven Alan Rogow, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Susan and Dennis Cochrane and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Gale and Wayne Breske. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Woods Morrisett of Springfield, Illinois; niece, Marilyn Morrisett Clark and husband Andrew Clark; nephew, Mark Morrisett; grand-niece, Kristen Houch (Jeff); and grand-nephew, Thomas Clark.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, David Arthur Rogow; parents, Joe and Cora Mae (Franklin) Woods; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Lillian Rogow; brother-in-law, Ralph Morrisett; and sister-in-law and her husband, David and Selma (Rogow) Schweitzer.
The family wants to thank all of our mother's friends at The Renaissance-Austin for their love and caring hearts during her illness. We also want to thank her caregivers from SeniorMinded Home Care and Buckner Hospice Austin for their loving care of our mother, and us, during her illness.
Above all else, her passion for her family and her dear friends were her greatest joy and we can all cherish the memories of her generous and giving heart. She will be missed every day.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your local chapter of the American Red Cross, local Salvation Army, or local animal humane society.
