

Oscar W. Ansell III, 60, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at his home. Oscar was born January 11, 1943 in Pana, IL the son of Oscar W., II and Mary Saries Ansell. He married Susan Lorscheider on February 25, 1989. Oscar was a graduate of Springfield High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Oscar retired as Chief Technical Officer for the Illinois Secretary of State's Office, where he worked for 38 years. He served as Financial Committee Chairman during construction of the new Lincoln Library, served on the Lincoln Library Board of Directors from 1971-1977, the Rolling Prairie Library Systems from 1972-1977, where he was President of the Board from 1975-1977. He also served on the State Library Advisory Committee on Federal Funds. In 1967 he was the first secretary of SRD Slow Pitch Softball league, and served there for 15 years. He served on the Springfield Youth Network Committee from 1995-1997, and was member of the Postal Club for many years, serving as President in 1987. He was a friend of Bill W. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Springfield; seven children: Oscar W. Ansell IV of Torrence, CA, John L. (wife, Mei) Ansell of Torrence, CA, Peter J. (wife, Jennifer) Ansell of Columbia, MO, Tom (wife, Liz) Ansell of Springfield, Tim Scranton of Springfield; Sarah Scranton of Moscow, ID, and Jesse Scranton of Springfield; mother: Mary Saries of Sherman; four grandchildren; one sister: Mary Ann Aten of Taylorville; one niece and several nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2003. Additional visitation will be from 9-10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Atonement Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Atonement Lutheran Church with Pastor Jon Berg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
