Pamela Grace Smith

She was born on July 2, 1969, in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Merrill and Grace (Moore) Thull. Pamela married Kristopher D. Smith on September 2, 2006.

Pamela graduated from Vandalia High School in 1987, received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1991, and earned her MBA from the University of Illinois in 1997. For over 30 years, Pamela dedicated her career to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in Springfield in a multitude of positions, most recently as manager of administration and human resources. Pamela was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, serving on the parish council, the school board, and volunteering often for various activities. She was an avid reader who enjoyed attending and supporting her son Kaden’s sporting events, playing board and card games, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Pamela is survived by her husband, Kristopher Smith of Springfield; father, Merrill Thull of Vandalia; son, Kaden Smith of Springfield; sibling, Trent (Stacy) Thull of St. Elmo, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, with a rosary at 4:00 p.m., followed by visitation for family and friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Pamela to Simmons Cancer Institute.
