

Pam Waughop, 88, of Springfield, Illinois and Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2021 at Brookdale Northwest Hills in Austin, Texas. She was born in Springfield to J.B. and Dorothy Cassiday, both of Springfield.
Pam married Richard “Dick” Waughop of Peoria, Illinois on August 29, 1954 at The First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Dick preceded her in death in 2002. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Jim (Beverly) Cassiday in 2004, and her nephew, Mike Cassiday in 2017.
As her father before her and daughters after her, Pam graduated from Springfield High School (1951). She then went on to a pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bradley University, graduating in 1955. In addition to many clubs and organizations, Pam was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and served as chapter president.
Pam worked for the Springfield School District for 11 years and then the Internal Revenue Service for 20 years. She retired in 1995. Pam, like her mother in 1960, was president (1970) and life member of The Springfield Ceramics and Crafts Club. Pam was also an active member of the Springfield Panhellenic Society, BF Chapter of PEO, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Academy of Life Long Learning, Westminster Presbyterian Church, The Springfield Bridge Center and too many bridge clubs to count!
Pam loved to play bridge, read, craft, travel, and cheer for the Cardinals! But most of all she loved to spend time with family and friends. A special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Northwest Hills in Austin who made Pam’s final years so enjoyable, happy and comfortable.
She is survived by two daughters: Beth Heimlich of Springfield and Ellen (Jim) Spiller of Austin, and four grandchildren: Luke (Stephanie) Heimlich of Burleson, Texas, Joey Heimlich of Jacksonville, Audrey Spiller of Columbia, Missouri and Blake Spiller of Austin. Also surviving are 3 nephews and 5 nieces: Buck (Linda) Cassiday, Kelly (Ellen) Cassiday, Matt (Susan) Cassiday: Kim Pate, Cindy (Larry) Phillips, Barb (Joe) Rebbe, Brenda (Rick Nunn) Koke, and Sandy (Larry) Good, all of the Springfield area. Pam also had 2 great granddaughters and many great nieces & great nephews.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield. 217-544-5424. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
