

He was born in Litchfield and grew up in Virden. George entered the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17 and served in Germany and France. He also served in the Air National Guard for 26 years. George was a real estate broker for more than 50 years. In 1983, he became a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church serving in west central Illinois for five years. George started Christ Church along the way in Chatham in 1988 and later moved to Glenarm before retiring in 2006.
He leaves his much-loved wife of 67 years, Doris; four children, James T. (Brenda) Bucks of Greeley, CO, Beth Ruark Bucks of Edwards, CO, Lori Morrison of Chatham, and Brian (Colleen) Bucks of Mitchell, NE; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, all the delight of his life; sister, Bonnie Rundle of Apple Valley, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; stepmothers, Dorothy and June; brothers, Tom Bucks and Don Couch; and sister, Esther McCready.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Jesus is the Gate Church, 10213 Palm Road, Glenarm, IL. A ceremony will follow at 1:00 p.m. and then a Celebration of Life reception to follow.
