Tricia was born in Glendale, CA on September 24, 1991, to Lee and Deborah Dhabalt-McCoy. When she was four years old, Tricia moved with her parents to Santa Barbara where she enjoyed the Seashells Sailing Club and was an avid Girl Scout. Tricia also sang with the Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus, traveling with the group to Hawaii for a national choral competition.
Tricia spent her early summers visiting family in Highland and Springfield, IL. In her high school years, her summers included competing in debates at the Stanford National Forensic Institute and completing AP classes at Georgetown University. She competed in the California Mock Trial competition on behalf of San Marcos High School, where she graduated in 2010. Tricia became a world-class traveler, traveling on school trips to Paris, Rome, and London. After high school, Tricia was a fierce advocate for the unhoused, mentally ill, and drug-using populations. She spent her all-too-short life helping others, always with a smile on her face and a cheerful word on her lips, loving her parents and family fiercely.
She is survived by her parents, Deborah Dhabalt-McCoy (Santa Maria, CA) and Lee McCoy (Los Angeles). From Springfield: uncles, Rick (Sheri), and Dan; aunts, Vicki Compton and Melanie Dhabalt; and cousins, Brittney, Trey (Lexi), Matthew, Amy, and Tim Dhabalt. Cousins, Emily Pries (Brock) and Sydney Compton live in Nashville, TN and Birmingham, AL, respectively. Her aunt and uncle, Paula (McCoy) & Dale Cauley, formerly of Highland, IL now live in southern MO.
Memorial Ceremony and Gathering: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL. A Memorial Gathering will follow until 3:00 p.m.
Private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, where her grandparents, Kathleen & Richard, and uncle, Andrew Dhabalt now reside.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Families ACT!, P.O. Box 2152, Santa Barbara, CA 93120, or your local mental health affiliate of NAMI. Both of these organizations assisted Tricia and Deborah's search for resources and support to treat Patricia’s schizophrenia.
