Patricia V. Meeter

Patricia V. Meeter, 96, died on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Born in Chicago, IL, on April 13, 1930, to Henry and Violet Heldt Meeter, she grew up in the Chicago suburb area. Pat graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and a master’s degree from University of Illinois in Champaign.

She married Robert Burgess in 1951, and had two sons, Jeff and Tim. Divorced in 1971, Pat married Ferdinand Fulgenzi. Ten years later, she married Jack Baldwin, M.D. All preceded her in death.

Pat taught public school for 38 years as a first grade teacher and reading specialist. She also became licensed as a teacher of Spiritual Studies at Unity School of Christianity outside of Kansas City. She taught classes, and conducted special services at Springfield Unity Church and at other churches throughout the U.S. Her love was teaching Artist Way classes, inspiring creativity and finding one’s true self. It was said, “She taught with her heart”.

She had an unfailingly positive attitude towards life. She believed deeply in the goodness and worth of each individual.

Pat is survived by her sons, Jeffry Burgess of Clinton, AR and Timothy Burgess of Chatham; brother, Dudley Meeter of Colbert, GA; and several cousins.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.

Memorial Ceremony: 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, with Karen Kelly officiating.
