Patricia E. Chambers Miller

Patricia Eileen Chambers Miller, 88, of Springfield, died at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at her residence. Patricia was born on April 9, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of John Stuart and Niena E. Keck Chambers. She married Joseph William Miller on October 15, 1949 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1997. Patricia attended Ursuline Academy and graduated from Lanphier High School. She earned her nursing degree from St. Catherine's in East Chicago and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Francis in Joliet. She worked her entire career as a nurse starting at Memorial Medical Center. She went on to work for St. John's Hospital and taught nursing at Memorial. She was later employed by Springfield Public Health, Illinois State Public Aid, and Illinois State Public Health until her retirement in 1986. Patricia also volunteered at St. John's Hospice for three years. She enjoyed playing golf and working out at Gold's Gym. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Miller; daughter, Theresa Miller; and three sisters, Maxine Fauber, Sarah Ann Kuchar, and Rosemary Walsh; brother, John Chambers; and great-grandson, John Stuart Canum-Malcolm. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Stuart (Barbara) Miller and Robert William (Karen) Miller, both of Springfield; five daughters, Kathleen J. (Scott) Vost of Edwardsville, Peggy (Lyle) Canum of Springfield, Marian (Tom) Adame of Las Vegas, NV, Pauline Mary (John) Davis of Las Vegas, NV, and Patricia (William) Shafer of Springfield; eighteen grandchildren, Therese (Kenn Matheny) Bogdanovich, Michael (Jodi) Canum, Sarah (Matt) St. John, Matthew Canum, Molly (Joe) Dulski, Benjamin (Judi) Vost, Sean (Allison) Miller, Meaghan (Steve) Buecker, Patrick Miller, Jennifer Miller, Joseph Miller, Brian Shafer, Kevin Shafer, Erin Davis, John Alexander Davis, Lauren Adame, Laine Adame, and Kara Shafer; twenty great-grandchildren, Joshua Wojctzak, Elijah St. John, Elisabeth Canum-Malcolm, Patricia "Katy" Canum-Malcom, Joseph St. John, Lillian Canum-Malcolm, Norah St. John, Dennis Canum, Henry Buecker, Ava Bogdanovich, Rebecca Canum, Margaret Canum, Claire Buecker, Jack Buecker, Calum Vost, Starlit Pope, Magdalyn Buecker, Piper Matheny, Lyle Dulski, and Angus Vost; sister, Gwendolyn (Jack) Mohay of VA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 7:30 on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at St. Cabrini, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield with Rev. Richard Chiola, celebrant.
