Patricia “Pat” Jane Piscitelli, 83, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at her home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10:30 am, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, Illinois.
Inurnment will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Rochester, Illinois.
Pat was born on June 25, 1942, in Chandlerville, Illinois, to Donald and Margie (Moore) Michael. Patty Jane, as she was known as a child, was curious and adventurous. Her favorite place to explore was her paternal grandparents’ farm in Chandlerville. Pat loved to learn and excelled academically. She graduated as salutatorian from Springfield’s Feitshans High School in 1960 and then attended Western Illinois University.
Pat married Theodore “Ted” Alex Piscitelli on May 4, 1963. During their marriage, Pat and Ted resided in Southern Illinois (Carbondale, Carterville, and Centralia) and Southwest Wisconsin (Platteville) before moving to Albion, Iowa, in 1988. As empty nesters, they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, in 2001. Ted passed on December 2, 2020. Pat moved to Iowa City in 2022 and finally to Coralville in 2024.
In Illinois and Wisconsin, Pat was an active member of La Leche League (LLL) International, where she and Ted formed close friendships that would last decades. As an LLL Leader, Pat met and touched the lives of many young mothers and families. During thirty-plus years of raising a family, Pat also enjoyed gardening with Ted and camping with friends and family. She supported Ted in running a grocery store and opening a bakery. Pat was a proponent of lifelong learning and exemplified that when she obtained her Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Iowa State University in 1998. Pat used her degree as an advocate and public servant in organizations such as Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA); Marshall County Youth, Runaway & Family Services; AmeriCorps; Marshalltown schools; and Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI), where she worked as a Prevention Specialist for several years before retiring in 2007.
In their golden years, Pat and Ted traveled to Jamaica and Mexico. After retirement, they spent many summer weeks camping in Hannibal, Missouri, and took a special trip to Ireland.
Pat treasured gatherings with family, especially her “baker’s dozen” of grandkids. An avid knitter and crocheter, she created beautiful keepsakes for her grandchildren and donated countless baby blankets and hats. Pat was a master of puzzles: crosswords, sudokus, jigsaws, and more. Fueled by her voracious reading of historical fiction and nonfiction, she was crowned the family Trivial Pursuit champion. Pat also loved a good mystery, especially one by Agatha Christie.
Pat’s family and friends will miss her kind and generous heart, humorous perspective, and easygoing nature. She will be remembered for her legacy of valuing mother-child relationships and family connections.
Pat is survived by her five children: Gina Piscitelli (Dave Soens) of Middleton, WI; Damon (Melissa) Piscitelli of Mt. Horeb, WI; Serena (Kenny) Cariens of Coralville, IA; Brendan (Melani) Piscitelli of Marshalltown, IA; and Erin (Michael) Schmidt of Ankeny, IA. Also surviving Pat are her sister, Bonnie (Dennis) Boatman, and brother, Kevin Michael, both of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Izzie, Gabe, Sam, Kayla, Rory, Joey, Jamis, Costin, Henley, Noah, Eben, Teddy, and Henry; and many nieces and nephews.
