Springfield, IL-Patricia Irene “Pat” Shipman was born November 22, 1951 to George and Betty (Blakeman) Lombardo in Springfield, IL. She passed away April 28, 2020 in Springfield, in her sunroom at home with the sun shining and the birds chirping.

Pat married the love of her life, Robert Shipman on October 10, 1970. They moved to Naples, Italy where Bob was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Springfield and were blessed with their only child, Michael on December 18, 1975.

She retired after 30 years of service from Lincoln Land Community College. Pat loved spending time watching her grandkids play sports and was the “team Grandma” for many seasons. Pat and Bob loved volunteering together at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and School where both of her grandkids attended school and where they were members. Pat loved to crotchet, sew counted cross stitch and create beautiful flower gardens in her yard. Her family loved to tease her about her short T-Rex arms, her use of words like Wonky and her love of all Hallmark Christmas movies.

Pat is survived by her husband Bob, her son, Mike (Amber), two grandsons; Aaron and Aiden Shipman, her mother, Betty Adams, three sisters: Susan (Ron) Rodvelt, Georgiann Davis and Mary Jo (Brian) Huber, two brothers; George Adams and Robert (Missy) Adams, several nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Lombardo, June 13, 1959 and her step father, George Adams, January 30, 1970.

Pat was such a good friend for many years. We worked at Lincoln Land Community College together. We were one of 10 who were pregenant at the same time. On our breaks Pat taught me to play
Backgammon. Still love the game and remember many fond days of playing it with her. She will be missed.

We were so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. It seems like just a while ago we talked to you at Top Cats and Pat had her smile on her face like always. Miss you as neighbors. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Pat and and I worked at LLCC twice - before children and again after our sons were born on the same date - about 4 hours apart. Our LLCC friends had a combined baby shower for us and another co-worker who was due near the same time. We shared many happy memories and times. I will miss her smile and her love of family and life.

Bob and family,
I was sorry to see that Pat had passed. I recently talked to you both at Schnucks last August when Don was sick and I was going through those hard days. You both told me then that Pat to had been going through some issues but she was doing well at that time. I know it will be hard for you and your family, but I'm sure you all have many good memories to rely upon in the next days and months to come. My condolences to you all in your time of sadness.
